To start with you will need to go to your hardware store and get some ABS TUBING: We suggest you work with ABS tubing with a 1.5" inner diameter (~38mm) as our instructions are based on that size. That size of pipe also is much stronger than most other vacbed frames on the market. (for the technical minded: Specifically we use ABS 1.5" Inner Diameter schedule 40 plumbing drain pipe) Notes on pipe diameters and lengths:
Frame Pipe Lengths Vs. Bed Design SizePlease note: We have just changed the way we label our bed sizes and are showing the size of the usable area within the vacbed instead of the overall length of the latex bag. We find this is less confusing for our customers. If your vacbed was purchased before Dec 30th 2010, your bed size NAME on your invoice will match the chart below even if the overall length of the bed listed seems different.
Not sure what length of vacbed you have? If it's a kink Enineering bed we include 20cm (8") of extra length to have room to seal the vacbed with our closure bar system. So measure the length of your latex and subtract 25cm or 9" and you will know the length of frame to use. This works for all vacbeds we have produced. Note: You can use PVC pipe, but please do not mix PVC with ABS tubing. They do not weld very well together, you will also need the proper glue. ABS cement for ABS tube, etc. HOW TO: INSTRUCTIONS TO BUILD YOUR VACBED FRAMEShort Frame InstructionsBelow are directions to make a frame that can be disassembled into a smaller space. NOTE: This is the frame we ship with our beds if you purchase a frame separately, we do not ship the full length pipe frame as it would require at least a 6 foot long box and the post office would think we were crazy. CRAZY!!! This shortened frame is very good, but tends to "hour glass" (the long sections bend in the middle a bit where the couplings are). This can be reduced by making sure your frame is tightly assembled and that the person inside does not pull in on the frame or bend in the middle too much. Alternatively you can add a wooden or metal doweling inside the long tubes (with the coupling in the middle) to help avoid bending of those pipes. The instructions below are a continuation of the "full frame" above. |
